Therapy for Parents of Teenagers

Parenting teens is another problem altogether.

Many of us never got to study how to raise a child before we thought about choosing our partner. We fall in love, get married, or decide to have children but never develop a plan to raise them. Then they grow up to be teenagers in the blink of an eye!

Their hormones start kicking in, and life seems more difficult as the days pass. Relationships become more complicated (e.g., the in and out groups, teasing, bullying), and they begin to assert their independence from their parents. In addition, school, friends, and thoughts of the future make life even more complicated.

Meanwhile, as parents, you carry the prior baggage you never had a chance to deal with before your union. That baggage grows in your marriage or partnership, and life sometimes seems impossible! Like you and your partner, your teenager has challenges with their relationships, school, and hormonal changes. Time to get some help!

Therapy provides objective help for your teen.

I love to help teenagers gain a strong life foundation and learn tools to deal with their everyday challenges at school and later as adults as they start wanting to create their own new families one day!

As a Psychoneurologist, I need to see your teenager and work with you individually to establish an understanding between the parents and the child – helping your communication to become smooth and loving. This approach allows everyone to communicate authentically, helping them understand and appreciate each other’s perspectives.

Since the parents, at some point, might not be able to express themselves completely and honestly, in front of each other or their teenager, I have created a unique program. First, I see the family together for a few sessions. Then, I meet with each parent individually, so they can express their true feelings and challenges without hurting the other one. After this, I will meet with both parents to ensure they understand each other, no matter how long they have lived together under the same roof.

Finally, your teenager will have private sessions with me in this package, and that’s where I can help them establish that solid foundation they need for the rest of their lives as adults.

Listen to L. J., the mother of a teenage client.

“My relationship with my whole family has transformed completely, especially with my teenage daughter. It was as if we were in the desert and now are in heaven. Every day seems like we are living in the Garden of Eden. She used to talk about her feelings and her relationship with her friends only before. We have a very friendly relationship now and do not get mad or upset with each other anymore. Even my communication with my husband has improved tremendously by taking this seminar. I have even learned a lot through sharing with others.”

Help your teenager during this transition.

The teenage years are stressful and different from when their parents were teens. Everything from school to relationships is more complex, and living with a stressed-out teenager is difficult for the parents.

Communication between parents and their teenage children is problematic because it is hard for either side to be objective. Opening a line of communication is where therapy can help.

It will be my pleasure to help you better understand yourself and your relationship and learn tools to communicate with your teenager where I can support your child in building a solid foundation for their future.
